In Goalkeeping Development
Savehands Goalkeeping was established in 2009 with one simple mission โ to make professional goalkeeping coaching accessible to every goalkeeper in Scotland, regardless of age or ability.
Ross Ballantyne is the founder and director of coaching at Savehands Goalkeeping. In 2009 Ross took SGK into weekly dedicated goalkeeping sessions and has never looked back.
As current Head of Academy Goalkeeping at Heart of Midlothian FC and Scotland U19s Goalkeeping Coach, Ross brings genuine elite-level expertise to every SGK session. Over his career he has assisted over 200 youth goalkeepers in signing for professional youth teams, with 100+ going on to play in the SPFL, Lowland League and beyond.
Ross's coaching philosophy is built around the four corners of goalkeeper development โ Technical, Tactical, Physical and Psychological โ ensuring every SGK goalkeeper develops as a complete player.
Shot stopping, distribution, positioning, footwork and handling. The core skills every goalkeeper needs to compete at any level.
Reading the game, organising the defence, decision making and understanding the goalkeeper's role within the modern team structure.
Strength, agility, speed and endurance. Building a goalkeeper who is physically prepared to perform at their best for 90 minutes.
Confidence, concentration, communication and resilience. Developing the mental strength to perform under pressure and bounce back from mistakes.
